Link with UTMs
Missing: Page address, Source (utm_source), Medium (utm_medium), Campaign (utm_campaign).
The link is built in your browser: it isn't stored or sent anywhere.
How it's built
- utm_source says where the visit comes from (facebook, google, newsletter); utm_medium, the kind of traffic (cpc, paid_social, email); utm_campaign, the campaign.
- utm_term and utm_content are optional: the paid keyword and which ad or link was clicked.
- Every value is lowercase with hyphens instead of spaces: "Facebook" and "facebook" would be two different sources in your analytics.
- Parameters your link already had are kept; any utm_ it had are replaced by the new ones.
Frequently asked questions
What are UTM parameters?
Five tags added to the end of a link (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term and utm_content) so your analytics knows which ad, email or post each visit came from.
Which ones are required?
Source, medium and campaign. Without them the visit is counted as "direct" or "referral" and you won't know which campaign brought it.
Why lowercase?
Because most analytics tools are case-sensitive: "Newsletter" and "newsletter" show up as two sources and the report splits in two.
Do I need UTMs on my ads?
Inside SalesMarketing they're added automatically to everything that goes out: ads, emails, posts and messages. This builder is for what you set up yourself: a bio link, a QR code or a campaign from another tool.
Want to know which campaign sells?
Inside SalesMarketing every sale is tied to the ad, email or conversation that brought it, with nothing to tag by hand.
